Dr. Tabak proposed that the NIH Pain Consortium submit an application to the Roadmap for the 2009 round of funding. There was discussion of the potential topic areas for the proposal and it was decided and agreed to base the topic on a previous Roadmap 2008 initiative to foster research leading to discovery of early biomarkers/biological signals for painful conditions and to better understand susceptibility factors for pain disorders. This topic will be expanded upon and more definitively characterized. John Kusiak and Linda Porter will assemble a sub-group of the Pain Consortium program staff to prepare the proposal. Since the deadline for submission is February 8, 2008, the group will have to proceed quickly to develop the proposal and a budget, contact extramural investigators for their input, and perform a portfolio analysis. John and Linda will contact program staff in early January to begin the work.
