Hal
R. Arkes received his BA from Carleton College in 1967 and his
PhD from the University of Michigan in Psychology in 1971. He
was a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Ohio University
from 1972 to 2000. He was a program officer at the National Science
Foundation from 1993-1995 and again from 1998 to 2000. He co-directed
the program in Decision, Risk, and Management Science. His research
interests are in the areas of medical decision making and economic
decision-making. He also has publications in law, memory, education,
social psychology, and music. He currently has a joint appointment
in the Ohio State University Department of Psychology and Center
for HOPES (Health Outcomes, Policy, and Evaluation Studies).
