MRI film illustrating the text caption

Structural changes in the major salivary glands can be visualized with sialography. A catheter is introduced into the main duct of the gland and a radio-opaque material is instilled into the body of the gland. The entire ductal tree may be visualized and any blockages, constrictions or tumors shown, as well as the integrity of the acini. The catheter may also be used to deliver therapeutics directly to the gland. Sialograms may be done of the submandibular and sublingual glands also.
