Dr.
Fox received his BA and DDS degrees from Columbia University.
He completed training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Harlem
Hospital Center, New York, NY and a Fellowship in Oral Medicine
at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Fox
was a member of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial
Research, National Institutes of Health, for 22 years, serving
as a senior investigator, as Chief of the Clinical Investigations
Section, Gene Therapy and Therapeutics Branch, as director of
the Oral Medicine Training Program, and as Clinical Director of
the Intramural Research Program. After leaving the NIH, Dr. Fox
was Director, Research and Development at Amarillo Biosciences,
Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing new biologics for
treatment of human diseases. At present, he is an independent
biomedical consultant focusing primarily in the area of clinical
trial design and administration, a Visiting Scientist at the Department
of Oral Medicine, Carolinas Medical Center, in Charlotte, NC,
and President of Erythema Diagnostics, LLC, a company developing
diagnostic devices for oral conditions. He is the past-President
of the International Society of Oral Oncology and currently serves
as President-Elect of the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation.
Dr. Fox is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine.
His research has focused on the causes and effects of salivary
gland dysfunctions, with particular emphasis on the immunopathogenic
mechanisms of Sjögren's syndrome.
